ACCOUNTING

accounting for what? nope, not accounting for costs. it's accounting for transactions. hoisyo. i've gone a loong way to reach this stage: yep, ACCA professional level

obviously (and of course) the same accounting subject is now waay harder. it used to be an easy subject, but now it has totally changed - only after 3 levels. last time it was all about debit credit, all about number crunching. now, heh, they dont really care about the numbers - it's all about understanding principles. knowing ur IAS and IFRS in and out. can u imagine, writing essays for an accounting paper?

as mr haneef puts it: the computations are only secondary answers. hahah. sometimes i just feel like 'shouting' back: isnt this an accounting subject??? lol. but i do see the logic of it. if it's all about computations, then accountants wont be earning that much, would we? ngaha. computations are meant to be done by the comPuteRs. DUH. we're in the 21st century here..

huhu. leave that aside. we dont want to talk about that here.

i've come to a point where my syllabus stresses on topics yg em, i should say, mamnu' fil islam. well, of course for "interest on normal loan", it is known since ages that we have an islamic way of dealing with finance. but now with all the financial instruments, i ask myself: "why am i learning all these stuff??" the derivatives, embedded derivatives, hedging items, hedging instruments, compound instruments, etc etc. belajar utk account benda yg haram di pandangan Islam. di pandangan Allah.

when i first heard about derivatives, i have already suspected that something is not right. futures, forwards, and what not - it's purely gambling, only with a different name. it's all about speculations on the future stock market. yes, that's the reason for the collapse of Barings Bank. Nick Leeson single handedly brought the bank into bankruptcy. i should say playing with the derivatives are pretty addictive too, as in the case of the Leeson guy, he kept on investing more - thinking he'd somehow turn around his losses back into profits.. - mmg judi.

i was talking to my dad last night - about the sub prime crisis. it's a big problem in the US right now, with the US economy declining. kenapa such problem could arise? it's becoz true islamic finance is nowhere to be seen there. people are taking multiple loans, people are spending so much more than what they earn, credit cards are used everywhere... maybe that's part of the Yahudi punya agenda - to make sure people spend, spend and spend, waste, waste and waste -- kononnye nak get the economy moving, kononnye nak get the money circulating.

so why am i in this finance line? tak cukup dengan creative ways of financing yg haraam, tambah lagi dgn ethics in the finance world profession yg very tersangat corrupted - thousands of accountants are in prison around the world. ade jugak rasa macam nak get out of here right this instant, buat something yang cleaner, something yg kite tak yah fikir - eh, ni halal ke? something with "low conflict of interest".

well, hem, that sums it. i need to take up islamic finance. i want to become a muslim finance professional yg tau in and out about all these stuff. we still need muslims in this line, no matter how corrupted it is, so that we can change things, making sure things go in line with the syari'ah - probably not in US, but at least our economy...

ok, whatever happens, i cant deny that things are interesting over here on this side. em, well, maybe with the exception of "IAS 41 - agricultural assets" and "first time adoption of IFRS" ^^_ lol

towards a truly and wholly Islamic world - everything will be in PEACE

You always arrive at a good answer, Tikki... :) I think the more corrupted and problematic a certain field is... the more we need to study it and have great Muslims in that sector. The *easy* choice would be to avoid all that (although honestly I'm not sure how possible that really is, perhaps all professions have its dark sides...), but the *better* choice would be to try our best to improve the situation.

"everything will be in PEACE" sounds so wonderful... :') We will reach that point one day, InshaAllah.
