18/08/08 came and went

Results out.

Alhamdulillah, I did fine. Nothing really outstanding. I scored the most on the paper I feared most (between the 3 papers) – and although the marks were quite suprising, I knew that it was the subject I studied hardest, and I’m pretty sure certain ppl have made du’a specifically for that paper, and definitely one of them is my umi.

Tee sing hasn’t taken his results yet – but I’m almost certain that he would pass all. He’s a genius. How can he not pass? Nahela did pass both papers, am very happy for her, and for myself. Ya lor, the loong hours we cracked our heads doing p2 was not at all wasted. ^__^

Quite a number of people did not pass, especially p4, the paper I am about to sit for this December. It’s a killer paper I heard, but I guess the only “non-killer” paper at this level is p5, coz a lot of the syllabus overlaps with other papers. So no choice, but to study harder.

I’ve never faced this situation, but I seriously do not agree with those who refuses to go back to their lecturers and clarify the problem when they fail a paper. Of course you can say that it’s unnecessary to go for the classes again, coz the lecturer is going to parrot out the exact same thing that u’ve heard b4. that I can agree. but it’s important to clarify the problem, clarify the reason for the failure. The lecturer may not know our own level of understanding on the subject, but he’s a lecturer for heaven’s sake. He knows what are the common mistakes students usually do.

And please, please, please don’t blame the lecturer if anyone flunked a paper. Other students would have passed, so it’s not the lecturer's problem. Of course I do share grievances, but it is just so unfair to blame the lecturer. If his style really doesn’t suite any of the students, sort out that problem in the first semester itself. why wait till after exams?

Now I’m starting to understand why some can actually fail a paper many many times – the worst I’ve heard of is 8 times. Can u imagine 4 whole years stuck at that level? Huho. I really cant.

But of course there are some who tried to identify the problem, but yet, cannot find it. They understood the lectures, did assignments, PYQs, mock exams, consulted the lecturer, etc etc, yet fail in the range of 45 – 50 marks. Say, 3 kali fail, all with marks in that range. It must be really frustrating and exasperating, and I think the only way out is to make du’a, makes loads and loads of du’a.

"And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright." Al-Baqarah: 186
