it's a weekend!!

=) it's been a kind-of-hectic week. i'm still trying to get used to the new schedule - VT during the day, classes at night and weekends, updating with friends in between. oh my, i need to train myself to sleep less!! i need to give way some time for revision and assignments! huho. coz right now if i were to choose between that and sleeping, of course i'd sleep!!!

oh btw, it's not a nasty schedule. i just need to train myself from now on to spend my time more wisely! a mu'min should not be at rest until his Lord makes the final call. i've been resting too much. i need to start making this journey meaningful!

i have been trying to choose topics which are relatively "more important" to be blogged, coz i've got loads to talk about. but yet somehow, due to some unknown reason, i blogged the last post, which on a second read, isnt really "important". but what to do, i've already published it. so why bother delete?

i went for a movie review on monday night. a friend's aunt works in astro, and she was given a task to screen this islamic documentary which was directed by a non-muslim. so we had the chance to see it by ourselves and comment on what is okay and true, and what was not so good.

i should say the sources of the documentary itself was very good. they had a few good speakers being interviewed, to name one Tariq Ramadhan. and masyaAllah, the content of what they say is more than just marvelous.

but there was one big problem that had forced us to decide that the documentary should not be published in malaysian tv, and that was because the impression that the documentary give as a whole. they simply "cut and paste" a few verses from the Qur'an from different chapters and simply put it into one context. they did not understand each verse fully, the asbab an-nuzul, and in what context was the verse applied in. and the end result may lead some to confusion or misunderstanding. so there was the big NO NO.

i should say that in whatever we watch today, we have to be conscious of its contents, be it an islamic documentary, or an islamic movie - especially if it is directed by a non-muslim. i can't totally blame them in certain circumstance, coz their understanding of islam is already that way. they themselves do not feel the essence of islam - so how can they project the true islam?

which brings up two different points - first, the difference in world view and human fitrah. there's a big, huge discrepancy between these two. a lot of things that is against the fitrah is something very normal today, and in fact, it is almost implied that you have to be in the norm.

the media especially - news, advertisements, movies, music and also games - will dictate into our subconscious mind of what is right and wrong. we are so used to hearing about crimes everyday, injustice, wars, killings to the extent that i am no more a humane being. the sympathy for others in me have been sucked out. i have to force myself to feel bad when i am shown pictures or video of our brothers and sisters who are prosecuted in their own lands. my heart is so corrupted that it can hardly even cry - though the eyes may be streaming with tears..

people say among the ways to amend this problem is to be conscious of what you watch. explicitly say to yourself that something is wrong when you see it. but first, we must go back to our deen to define and distinguish what is right and what is wrong from the perspective of islam. then only we can determine what norm that we can do and what should be rejected.

coming back to the second point - it is very hard for one who does not appreciate a message to convey it to others. non-muslims can never produce a documentary that reflects the whole and true islam, coz they themselves do not understand it.

some weeks ago, my friend and i were debating why some speakers are very good, so good that even a sentence that come from them can give such a big impact. their words can strike straight to the heart, leaving a mark, being a reminder for the rest of life.

a point that she made - which is very2 true was this: it's becoz those kind of speakers speak with their hearts, thus will touch other people's heart. they truly understand, experience and appreciate the things that they say.

this is unlike some "superficial" talks that a lot of people might have attended, where we go back with empty hands and hearts.

so in every communication, not just talk or seminars, i think it is very important to speak with the heart. i myself have to appreciate something, before i can convince others of it.
