especially being in the corporate world which consists of majority non-muslims, everybody is bound to face the "handshake situation". you can never avoid the situation. if you really desperately want to avoid that situation in the first place, the only thing that i can say is: go find another career.
frankly i should say, when people put out their hands for a handshake, i'd immediately put forward my hand - regardless whether it is a guy, or girl. as far as i can remember, only ONCE did i not put forward my hand at all - of which after that, was tegur-ed by my dad.
a friend asked, kenapa kena salam jugak? awak kesian kat dia ke? takut malukan dia? well, my answer pretty simple. ter-salam. at first she could not accept such answer.
i pretty sure most of you would not accept such answers too. but i'm serious in that. i subconsciously put my hand forward to reply the handshake - it's no joke. for my whole life, i have been familiarised with situations where people yg nak salam are the allowed ones. and all these while i have been replying all those handshakes. isn't it natural to put out your hands and reply handshakes for the rest of your life too?
it's like driving a car. the traffic light is green. you do not brake. it's not often that a traffic light goes haywire - where it shows green but it's actually not your turn to go. accidents in those situation are bound to occur, dont they? you can't sue the driver, can you? but of course you can question why the driver is not being alert enough.
so now, it's a matter of being alert. hitting the brakes, and go slow each time i encounter a possible "haywire traffic light". it's important that i put up a "signage" saying "CAUTION: haywire traffic light ahead" to myself as often as possible.
the best part is that i've learnt how to "return" handshakes without actually shaking hands. ^__^ alhamdulillah. but learning doesnt benefit if it is not applied kan.
anyways, i should say that there are views that allows non-mahram male and female to have deliberate skin contact such as for acting professional and respecting others, coz they interpreted certain verse of the Qur'an in a different manner. i wont debate anything on that - my knowledge is too shallow. waay too shallow.
nevertheless, i should say that let's just try avoid it whenever possible. there must be a valid reason for God imposing on us, His creations, such a command. and for one - i think it compliments the verse "la taqrabu zina" .
there are millions of benefits which we havent discovered - but i'm sure The Creator knows best.
oh, RAMADHAN IS COMING! RAMADHAN MUBARAK people!! uh-oh. my last ramadhan was not filled in well. i need to do better! much much better! insyaAllah.
it's 12 05am. gtg ^__^
