twinkle twinkle little stars

stars

what are they actually?

Definition by wikipedia: "A star is a massive, luminous ball of plasma that is held together by its own gravity"

ya. i get that. but... why do we have to have stars? can the world survive without stars? okay, excluding the biggest star a.k.a the sun that is...

you have to agree with me that pictures cannot at all describe the immensity of it - its nothing like watching it live - unlike other things like clouds, mountains, moon, rivers, ocean, sunrise/sunset, u name it - where sometimes the pictures you capture can look waay more awesome.

i've got an unimaginably poor level of geography, so pardon me for the baaka-ness, but we do see the same bunch of stars no matter where we are on earth right?? well, at least the "qiblah" stars do support my assumption. i can see them no matter where i am, as long as stars are visible (where there's no fog, no pollution, no bright lights).

we were travelling by bus at night the other day, and i had a whole good time watching the stars coz i had the window seat - although at times i wished i could just lay on my back on top of the bus, watching the never ending stretch of stars... but it was still a wonderful experience. masyaAllah.

stars. something so far away that made me ponder upon many things. that looks so static yet i can stare into it for hours.

what are they actually?

come to think of it -- some of the 'stars' that we see now are actually just the light of stars that have already died. given their distance from us, it took light years for the light to reach us, long after the stars have gone. now that's something else to ponder!
