why accountancy? ppl ask me.
i've never wanted to become an accountant. that was the LAST thing that i've ever wanted to be. i'm not kidding you. among all the occupations in the world, accountant was NEVER an option. yaa... who wants to be a cashier? ooops. where did that come from? but yes. i used to have this misconception. accountants=cashiers and cashiers=accountants. that was umm... when i was in junior 4? (and oh, engineers=mechanic) nyaha :)
so, when people asked me what i wanted to be, i had no choice but to answer doctor. i mean, the choices of occupation were so limited back then. typical occupations: policeman, fireman, teacher, businessman, doctor, nurse, artist, chef, engineer, pilot. so DUH, of course i wanted to become a doctor. the so called noble choice. plus, my dad really really really encouraged me to become one.
so through high school, all i did was to stick to one occupation. which, of course, was totally fine. i was soo stuck to becoming a doctor that i never wanted to look at other options. plus, accounting KH (kemahiran hidup) mmg lah teramat seNang dan bOring. debit credit, T accounts. that was all accounting was about. zaman bila punya syllabus tah.
until senior high 1 came. some considered to take up accounts (as a subject for survival in life lah kononnya) but it was never offered in our school. it wasnt a big deal to me. coz i still wanted to become a doctor!
at some point in senior high, we had this career thing. talks, etc2. and we were also brought to this college offering ACCA. they introduced what ACCA was all about, bla bla bla. suddenly i thought of considering it, but when i wanted to bring it up to my parents, my mum just gave a biG no.
and so i kind of came back to becoming a doctor.
but somehow 6 months before my finals, my dad suddenly brought it up and said that i should just take ACCA, (his reason was becoz it was a much faster route, or was it because he needed someone in CV?). but regardless of his reason, i did manage to take up ACCA anyways. and after my graduation last saturday, i am one step closer to becoming a CA.
an advertisement by ACCA that really interested me:
football. not just 22 people chasing after a ball.
many of the biggest jobs in football require no ball skills at all. without qualified accountants, your favourite players would never make it onto the pitch, because no team survives unless its finances are kept onside. People with ACCA qualification are at the heart of the world's most exciting industries.
ACCA. Accounting for every profession.
well, not that i like football or anything, but it really made me look at accountancy in a whole, totally new perspective. accounting, auditing & finance is never just about debit credit or T accounts. there is so much more to it.
